Camera

KeyFollow uses your Mac's camera only while tracking is on, to estimate which way your head is turned. Frames are analyzed in memory on your Mac using Apple's Vision framework and discarded immediately. No image or video is ever recorded, written to disk, or transmitted. The camera stops whenever your Mac is locked or asleep.

Data stored on your Mac

KeyFollow stores its calibration — numeric head angles associated with each display — and your preferences in your user Library. If you turn on the optional diagnostics log, it stores numbers only (angles, probabilities, timings) under ~/Library/Logs/KeyFollow. None of this leaves your Mac.

Network

The app makes only two kinds of network requests:

  • License: to Polar (polar.sh), to activate and periodically validate your license key. These requests contain your license key and your Mac's name as the activation label.
  • Updates: about once a day, to keyfollow.com/appcast.xml, to see whether a newer version exists. The request carries only the app's version; no system information is sent. You can turn automatic checks off in Settings.

The app has no account system, analytics, advertising or tracking.

Purchases

Purchases are processed by Polar Software Inc. as merchant of record. Polar handles your payment details and email address under its own privacy policy. We receive your email address and order details to provide your license and support.

Website

Analytics (only with your consent). If you click Accept in the cookie banner, this website uses Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Ltd. / Google LLC) to understand how visitors find and use it: pages viewed, the site you came from, approximate location (country/city), device and browser type, and clicks on Download and Buy. Google Analytics sets cookies (_ga, _ga_*) for up to 14 months; IP addresses are not stored by Google Analytics 4. Data may be processed in the United States under Google's standard contractual clauses. If you click Decline — or do nothing — no analytics cookies are set and nothing is sent to Google. You can change your choice any time with Cookie settings in the footer. Your choice itself is stored in your browser's local storage.

Meta Pixel (only with your consent). If you click Accept, this website also loads the Meta Pixel (Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd.) to measure our ads on Facebook and Instagram: it reports page views, clicks on Download, Buy or Send to my Mac, and completed purchases (amount only) together with your browser and device information, and sets a cookie (_fbp) for up to 90 days. Meta may receive the same events through its own server connection (Conversions API) and may use them as described in its privacy policy. If you click Decline — or do nothing — the Meta Pixel is never loaded and nothing is sent to Meta.

Anonymous visit and download counters. Without cookies and without any identifier, our own server keeps daily totals of page views and downloads: the date, the page, the website or campaign you came from (for example "instagram.com"), the device type (Mac, iPhone, Android…) and clicks on Download, Buy or Send to my Mac. Your IP address is not stored and nothing links one visit to another. The app's daily update check is counted the same way (date and app version only). Fonts are served from this site. Our host keeps standard server logs for security.

"Email me the link". On a phone, you can ask us to email you the download link so you can open it on your Mac. We use the address only to send that one email (through our host's mail server) and do not store or log it. To limit abuse, our server keeps a one-way, daily-changing code derived from your IP address for one day, and counts how many links were sent.

The KeyFollow app itself contains no analytics of any kind.

Facebook and Instagram

We advertise KeyFollow on Facebook and Instagram. Our Meta developer app ("KeyFollow Ads") is used only by us to manage our own ads through Meta's Marketing API; it has no Facebook Login and never receives or stores information about you. If you contacted us through Facebook or Instagram, or want any data we hold about you deleted, email support@keyfollow.com and we will delete it within 30 days. To remove data Meta holds about your visits to this site, use Meta's "Your activity off Meta technologies" settings.
